Achilles Tendon Rupture

Achilles Tendon Rupture- This is most common in soccer players that are likely to need to boot the ball forward at a rapid pace. This injury is exactly as described, it is when the Achilles tendon in your foot snaps. This is very painful and uncomfortable for soccer players, and can cause them to be out of action for weeks at a time while it heals. The rupture can be caused by using your foot to break yourself from a fall, or stumbling or tripping and landing while putting an exerted amount of pressure on the top of your foot. This can cause the tendon to simply snap. If an Achilles Tendon Rupture occurs, the affected person should seek help from a doctor or physiotherapist immediately. A tear of the tendon can be healed by resting it and putting ice on it, although a totally ruptured tendon requires at least 3-6 months of healing time, as it needs time to re-join. This usually means that the patient would have to walk around in a boot or on crutches. Sometimes surgery is necessary as if the tendon does not fuse together correctly again it could leave the patient without full use of their calf and the affected foot.
