Static Stretching

Static stretches are done to lengthen or stretch out muscles. They usually involve standing in the same spot, and do not require large amounts of movement.

Plus-

Ø  Static stretches are fairly easy to do, and do not require large amounts of space to be performed

Ø  They are particularly good for warming up before a workout session

Ø  Static stretching improves flexibility

Minus-

Ø  Static stretches need to be coupled with other aspects I order to be effective

Ø  Although these are good for stretching muscles, they do not strengthen them

Ø  This form of stretching is sometimes described as ‘relaxing’ so it is not recommended for sports that are very physically demanding

Interesting-

Ø  These stretches can be done by yourself, in partners, or with the use of a wall or chair

Ø  There is more than one type of static stretch

Ø  Static stretches have the ability to lengthen muscles
