Players need mental preparation before, after, and during a game. Some coaches choose to be pushy and mean, although the most successful tend to understand from a player’s point of view, and does not con them into feeling guilty themselves.

Players should have a clear mind before a game, and think of nothing but the task ahead. Some players do mental exercises beforehand in order to be able to achieve this. During training, it is vital that players are focusing on what the coach is telling them, so that they are able to apply what they learnt in training to the game.

Coaches need to connect with their players. Coaches who talk through, rather than shout at their players are those who are most successful. A successful coach puts themselves on the same level as their team, and sees through their eyes.

Having a game plan is an important aspect, as the players need to know the overall goal. Having an incentive in mind also helps.
